Hatters Rally to Force Overtime, But Fall to Radford

SAVANNAH, Ga.—Stetson led by as many as 13 points in the second half, but Radford rallied twice to secure an 80-66 overtime win in the Savannah Invitational, Friday at the Savannah Civic Center.

The Hatters (2-4) appeared to take control of the game early in the second half when a Divine Myles layup gave Stetson a 50-37 lead with 14:56 to play. But the Highlanders responded with 19-5 run of their own over the next 7:05 and took their first lead of the half at 56-55.

Radford continued to build on its lead and led 63-57 after a Christian Bradford layup with 4:49 to go. But the Hatters didn't go away.

Derick Newton stopped a three minute scoring drought for both teams with a pair of free throws at 1:22 and Angel Rivera followed with a layup with 44 seconds left to get the Hatters within 63-61. After a defensive stop by Stetson, Rivera again hit a layup in traffic with eight seconds remaining to tie the game and ultimately force overtime.

But the extra five minutes belonged to Radford as the Highlanders outscored Stetson, 17-3, sending the Hatters to their fourth straight loss.

Myles led Stetson with 17 points on 8 of 9 shooting, while Newton added 15 points and a team-high six rebounds. Luke Doyle chipped in with 10 points.

Ed Polite, Jr., paced Radford with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
