Stetson University senior
Donald Payne became just the seventh player in the history of the Pioneer Football League to earn first team All-PFL honors four times when the league announced its 2016 honorees.
Â
Payne, the three-time PFL Defensive Player of the Year, was joined on the All-PFL first team by senior defensive tackle
Davion Belk. Junior linebacker
Jeb Boudreaux, who led the PFL with 114 tackles this year, was named second team All-PFL along with senior punter
Eric Fogle.
Â
Three other Stetson players – seniors
Kegan Moore (WE/KR),
Mike Yonker (FB) and
Patrick Fogarty (OL) – were honorable mention selections to the All-PFL squad.
Â
Payne is the first four-time All-PFL first team selection since Drake running back Scott Phaydavong pulled off the trick from 2004-07. Other four-time selections have included Drake kicker Billy Cundiff (1998-01), Morehead State defensive back Charles Byrd (2002-05), Drake punter Ryan Horvath (2002-05), Morehead State defensive lineman Ryan McKenzie (2002-05) and Morehead State linebacker Craig Unger (2002-05).
Â
From 2001-05 the league was divided into two divisions and selected an All-PFL team from each division.
Â
In addition to Payne's four-time milestone, a trio of players also earned their third first team All-PFL citation with selection to this season's squad. Dayton's senior linebacker Christopher Beaschler and senior kicker William Will were joined by Jacksonville's senior linebacker Grady Redding as three-time recipients.
Â
A further four 2016 honorees received their second first-team award, each from Dayton – senior offensive lineman Jim Vogel, defensive back Cameron Stubbs, defensive back Christian Searles, senior punter Sean Smith.
Â
Also highlighting the 2016 All-PFL Teams were three unanimous selections, each from league champion San Diego: Riley, Petersen and senior running back Jonah Hodges, the league's Offensive Player of the Year.
Â
In addition to the 57 student-athletes recognized on the league's first and second teams, 75 student-athletes received honorable mention recognition.
Â
The Academic All-PFL team, highlighted by the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, will be released Wednesday, concluding the league's awards week.
