Myles' Double-Double Leads Hatters to Road Win

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—Divine Myles recorded his fifth career double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds as Stetson defeated SIU Edwardsvile, 80-72, Wednesday at Vadalbene Center.
 
The Hatters (5-6) led 37-20 at halftime and built as much as a 22-point lead (59-37) in the second half before the Cougars (4-5) cut it down to eight points, 69-61, with 3:26 left. But a Myles 3-point play with 2:31 to play gave Stetson a 74-61 lead and the Hatters never looked back.
 
Myles was 8 of 12 from the field and 6 of 9 from the free throw line as Stetson won its first true road game of the year. The 23 points tie his career scoring best.
 
Derick Newton (14), Luke Doyle (13) and Angel Rivera (12) supported Myles' efforts. Rivera added six assists.
 
SIUE's Jalen Henry led all scorers with 28 points, adding 11 rebounds.
 
News & Notes
Myles tied his career scoring high, which was originally set against Jacksonville last February … Newton extended his double-figure scoring streak to 16 straight games … Clay Verk scored  a career-high 8 points in 15 minutes off the bench … this was the first meeting between the Hatters and Cougars … this was Stetson's first non-conference road win since defeating FIU, 81-75, on Nov. 30, 2015.
