Hatters Blanked by Miami, 3-0

DeLAND—Three different Miami players scored goals as the Hurricanes handed Stetson a 3-0 setback in women's soccer, Sunday at the Athletic Training Center.

Kristina Fisher, Grace Rapp and Gracie Lachowecki each scored for Miami (2-0-0), but the play of goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce may have been just as important to the Hurricanes.

Tullis-Joyce thwarted an early scoring attempt by the Hatters (0-1-1) when she made a nice save on a header by Briana Camargo in the eighth minute, denying the Hatters a chance at an early lead.

Miami took advantage when Fisher found the back of the net in the 16th minute, scoring when Stetson keeper Kahri Smith deflected a shot by Ronnie Johnson right to Fisher five yards away. Gianna Del Pozo was also credited with an assist on the play.

Stetson mustered just three shots in the first half but, much like Friday's draw with FIU, the Hatters came alive in the second half. But it took a second Miami goal to completely wake up the Hatters.

Leading 1-0 at halftime, Miami doubled its lead when Rapp finished a cross from Fisher in the 56th minute.

The 2-0 deficit seemed to give the Hatters life, as Stetson responded by controlling play over the next 17 minutes. The Hatters unleashed seven shots during that span, but Tullis-Joyce made two brilliant saves to keep the Hurricanes in front.

Miami added its final goal when Lachowecki scored in the 79th minute.

Stetson keeper Smith made six saves in her first start of the season.

The Hatters next host UMass-Lowell, 7 p.m., Friday.
