Box Score Orlando, Fla. -- Stetson fell 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-9, 25-17) to Kent State in its season opener Friday morning at the UCF Invitational.
Six different players made their Hatter debuts, including freshman Eva Deisa who led the team with 10 kills. Madison Akins and Shelby Connors added six kills apiece.
After falling behind 1-0 in the match, the Hatters (0-1) rallied in set two for a 25-22 victory. The Golden Flashes (1-0) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in set three and held off Stetson in set four to claim the victory.
"We started off the first two sets really strong, and in the second set we hit for a real high percentage," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "In the last two sets, Kent State made some really good adjustments on us defensively, and we didn't do the same, and that ended up hurting us. We tried some different line-ups, and I think we will try some different ones this afternoon to try and figure out which ones are going to work for us."
Setters Roxy Lake (14 assists) and Karmen Reivik (12 assists) combined for 26 assists and McKenna Foster led the defense with seven digs.
Also making their Hatter debuts Friday morning were Danielle Sink, Olivia Duval, Charlotte Earnhart, Julie Varga, and Reivik.
Stetson will face Stony Brook at 5:30 p.m.
