Collins, Plotz Lift Hatters to 1-0 OT Win

DeLAND--Sarah Collins scored the game-winning goal with just over two minutes left in the second overtime period to lead Stetson to a 1-0 win over visiting Campbell, Friday at the Athletic Training Center.

The win snaps Stetson's three-match losing streak, and gives the Hatters (2-4-2) their first win in three overtime affairs this season.

Collins tallied her first game-winning goal of the season, and fifth overall, when she blasted a shot from the right side of the box past the outstretched arms of Campbell goalkeeper Natalya Marcove and into the lower left corner of the goal, setting off a wild celebration on the field.

Allison Zaccheo made Collins' goal possible with a perfect pass down the sideline in front of the team benches. The pass hit Collins in stride, allowing her to race past two defenders and get off the winning shot.

The goal allowed freshman keeper Emily Plotz to earn her first career win. Plotz stonewalled the Camels (5-3-0) all night, making 10 saves on 21 shots, including several strong efforts in overtime. Plotz's performance was even more remarkable considering she missed the previous five matches with an injury.

Stetson's defense as a whole was impressive in keeping the Camels off the board. Campbell entered Friday riding a three-game win streak in which they outscored their opponents by a 14-1 margin.

Marcove was nearly Plotz's equal, making seven saves of her own to help keep the game scoreless for nearly 108 minutes.

The Hatters look for a weekend sweep when they host Wofford, 1 p.m., Sunday.
