DeLAND—Sarah Collins and Adrianna Suarez each scored a pair of goals and Emily Plotz recorded her second straight shutout as Stetson dominated Wofford on the way to a 4-0 win, Sunday at the Athletic Training Center.
The win gives Stetson (3-4-2) its first weekend sweep of the season, after the Hatters also defeated Campbell (1-0) on Friday. This was the Hatters' final non-conference match prior to the start of Atlantic Sun Conference play next weekend.
Collins opened the scoring for the Hatters in the fifth minute, when she stole the ball from a defender at the top of the goal box and beat Wofford's keeper from five yards out. Plotz was credited with the assist after a long clearing kick from the top of the Stetson box on the other end of the field.
Suarez scored back-to-back goals in the first half as Stetson took control of the match. Her first goal came in the 17th minute when Collins flicked a pass in to Suarez inside of three yards for an easy score.
Suarez's second goal came about five minutes later when she again got free just in front of the goal and took a feed from Allison Zaccheo to make it a 3-0 game. Collins was also credited with an assist on the play.
Collins put the game away for Stetson in the 67th minute. The junior forward used a thru ball from Abbie Camargo, put a move on the keeper, and scored into an empty net to make it 4-0.
Plotz was strong in goal again on Sunday, making four saves against eight shots. Plotz and the Stetson defense didn't allow a goal in 198 minutes this weekend.
The Hatters next face defending ASUN champion FGCU, 7 p.m., Friday in Fort Myers.
