Volleyball Drops a Pair Saturday at the USF Classic

Tampa, Fla. -- The Stetson volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the USF Classic Saturday, falling 3-1 to LIU-Brooklyn and 3-0 to Wright State at the Sun Dome.

The Hatters (2-13) took the opening set 25-19 vs. LIU, but the Blackbirds (3-9) came back to win the next three sets 25-18, 25-21, 25-22.

Wright State (5-8), meanwhile, won in straight sets 25-21, 25-13, 25-13.

In the LIU match, the Stetson saw a balanced offensive attack as four different players collected eight kills or more.  Madison Akins led the way with 13 kills, McKenna Foster and Shelby Connors registered nine kills each, and Eva Deisa chipped in eight.

Defensively, the Hatters recorded a season-high 69 digs.  Marissa Salazar led the back row with a career-high 22 digs, Deisa also had a career-best 17 digs, and Foster added 10. 

Shelby Connors assisted on seven of the team's 10 blocks.  

Roxy Lake nearly missed a double-double with 19 assists and nine digs while Karmen Reivik tallied 15 assists for the Hatters.  

Stetson hit .124 for the match.

Against Wright State, Akins led the way once again with seven kills.  Foster picked up 12 digs and Salazar added 10.  Lake and Reivik each had 11 assists,

The Hatters were held to a season-low .008 attack percentage (29-28-119).  Wright State hit .230.

Salazar was named to the USF Classic all-tournament team.

Stetson will return home to face Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
