Volleyball Drops Two Matches at USF

Tampa, Fla. – Stetson took New Mexico to four sets before falling 3-1 in the morning match, then fell 3-0 to FAU Friday afternoon in the first day of the USF Invitational at the Sun Dome.

The Hatters dropped to 0-5 on the season.

Against New Mexico, the Hatters posted season-highs in kills (44), assists (42), digs (60), and blocks (13). Shelby Connors assisted on eight of the team's 13 blocks.

Madison Akins led the offense with 18 kills, while adding seven blocks and five digs. Eva Deisa recorded her first career double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.

Both Stetson setters set career-highs in assists as Roxy Lake dished out 25 helpers and Karmen Reivik chipped in 14. Marissa Salazar's 19 digs and two aces were career-high marks as well.

The Hatters got off to a great start vs. New Mexico, building a 15-8 lead and coasting to a 25-19 set 1 victory.

In the second frame, New Mexico held a 23-18 lead when Stetson made a late charge. Deisa cut the deficit to four with a kill, and then Akins went off, notching two kills and two block assists to pull the Hatters even at 23. Stetson then staved off two set points before the Lobos tallied the final two markers to take the set 27-25.

The Hatters ran out to a 10-2 lead in set 3, but this time New Mexico rallied from behind and eventually took the set 25-21.

The Lobos (4-1) closed out the match 25-16 in set 4.

Stetson hit .144 for the contest, while New Mexico hit .161.

Against FAU (3-3), Akins tallied nine kills and 10 digs, narrowly missing a double-double. Salazar also picked up 10 digs, and Lake set a new career-high with 27 assists. Olivia Duval led the team with three block assists.

Thirteen different Hatters saw action in the match, including freshman Myah Martin who made her Stetson debut.

The Owls hit .348 while the Hatters were held to just .049. FAU won by scores of 25-9, 25-23, and 25-13.

The USF Invitational continues Saturday. Stetson will face Georgetown at 9 a.m. and USF at 1:30 p.m.
