Sluggish First Half Sinks Hatters at Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga.—Kennesaw State shot 61 percent in the first half and placed four players in double figures in handing Stetson a 84-65 loss in Atlantic Sun Conference play, Saturday at KSU Convocation Center.

For the second straight game Stetson struggled in the first half. Two days after allowing Lipscomb to score 47 points on 57 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes, the Hatters had a similar first-half result against KSU.

The Owls (7-12 overall, 1-2 ASUN) were led by Kendrick Ray's 20 points. Ray, the ASUN's leading scorer, scored all of his points in the first half, including 13 in the final 4:53. Kennesaw State closed the first half by making 6 of 7 field goals and led 52-25 at the break.

Stetson (7-12, 0-3) limited the Owls to 29 percent shooting in the second half, but the 27-point halftime deficit proved to be too much. The Hatters never got closer than 16 points after halftime.

Larry Dennis led Stetson with 14 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds. The junior center was 4 of 6 from the field and made 6 free throws. Leo Goodman added 13 points, while Divine Myles and B.J. Glasford added 10 points each.

News & Notes
Larry Dennis recorded his first career double-double and also set a career-high in rebounds (11) and minutes played (29) … Leo Goodman reached double figures for the 4th straight game, the longest streak of the sophomore's career … Goodman is 11 for 24 from 3-point range over those four games … Stetson made at least one three-pointer (7 total) for the 379th consecutive game.

Quotable
"When our best players don't show up in the first half, it's tough. In the second half we changed some things and we played better. The start today looked a lot like how we started at Lipscomb. Right now our first half play is really killing us." – Stetson head coach Corey Williams
