Waters, TenBroeck Earn Preseason All-Conference Honors

Hatters Picked Fifth in ASUN Preseason Poll

DeLand, Fla. – The Stetson University softball team has been picked to finish fifth in the 2017 ASUN Conference preseason coaches poll, the league announced on Wednesday.

Senior second baseman Jessie TenBroeck (Live Oak, Fla.) and senior leftfielder Kelsey Waters (Keystone Heights, Fla.) were each selected to the preseason all-conference team. TenBroeck was also voted as one of the league's Preseason Defensive Players of the Year.

The Hatters, who were 30-24 overall in 2016, received 25 points in the coaches poll.

USC Upstate received six first-place votes and 48 total points to take the top spot in the preseason poll. Florida Gulf Coast (43 points), Kennesaw State (27) and Lipscomb (26) were picked to finish second, third and fourth, respectively. Jacksonville (16) and North Florida (11) rounded out the poll.

TenBroeck earned Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors for the first time in her career. TenBroeck maintained a .988 fielding percentage in ASUN play last season, committing just one error in 81 chances. Overall, she started all 54 games at second base and ranked second in the league with 147 assists. She also helped turn six double plays.

Offensively, TenBroeck batted .343 in 2016 with 59 hits, 30 runs scored, and 33 stolen bases. In addition, she hit .370 in ASUN play and earned first team all-conference honors.

Waters also earned first team all-conference honors in 2016 after batting .308 with seven doubles, two triples, a home run, and 16 RBI. She started all 54 games in left field, and she batted .340 in ASUN play.
