Goodman Leads Balanced Hatters Past Ave Maria

DeLAND—Five players scored in double figures as Stetson cruised to a 95-72 win over visiting Ave Maria, Monday at Edmunds Center.

Stetson (7-9) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. The game served as the final tune-up before Atlantic Sun Conference play begins on Saturday when the Hatters host FGCU at 4 p.m.

Leo Goodman's career-high 17 points paced the Hatters. The sophomore from Saginaw, Mich., was 7 of 11 from the field with a trio of three-pointers. He added five rebounds for good measure.

Brian Pegg (16), Luke Doyle (15), B.J. Glasford and Clay Verk (12 each) joined Goodman in double digits.

While the final score indicates a laugher, the Hatters had to work more than expected against the Gyrenes (4-10).

Ave Maria actually led by as many as 10 points in the early going and held a 30-28 lead with 6:56 left in the first half before four consecutive three-pointers by Luke Doyle snapped the Hatters out of their funk. By the time Doyle finished his barrage the Hatters held a 42-32 lead and never trailed again.

Stetson led 56-34 at halftime.

Ave Maria was led in scoring by Deonte Scott's 32 points on 9 of 22 shooting. The Gyrenes were 13 of 43 from 3-point range, with making 7 of 18 from deep.
