Huge Run Propels Stetson Past NJIT 77-43

Sarah Sagerer collects her fifth double-double of the year

DeLand, Fla. -- Fueled by a 28-0 run early in the first half, Stetson cruised to a 77-43 win over visiting NJIT Monday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (15-5, 4-1 ASUN) came flying out of the gate to win their fourth in a row.  Stetson ballooned an 8-4 advantage into a 36-4 lead by the 5:29 mark of the second quarter.  Sarah Sagerer had five blocks in the first half as Stetson led 44-13 at the break.

"I thought we played well, probably our best game of the year," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I thought in the first half especially our defense was outstanding.  I think NJIT is a good team and Dudley is one of the best guards in the league, and to hold them to 13 points in a half is pretty good."

Brittney Chambers led the offense with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting.  She also hit three 3-pointers and grabbed five rebounds.

Breana Bey added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Sagerer posted her fifth double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  All 11 boards were on the defensive end.

Brianti Saunders fell one point shy of extending her double figures streak to 20 games.  She hit three times from 3-point range and collected five rebounds and five assists.

Stetson shot 54 percent for the game and outrebounded NJIT 44-28.  Alana Dudley led the Highlanders (8-12, 1-4 ASUN) with 11 points.

The Hatters will aim for their fifth win in a row on Saturday when they host UNF.  Tip-off at the Edmunds Center is set for 1 p.m.
