Hatters Open ASUN Play Saturday, Host FGCU

Stetson men's basketball opens Atlantic Sun Conference play when the Hatters host defending conference champion FGCU, 4 p.m., Saturday at Edmunds Center. The game can be seen on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app, and can be heard in Volusia County on WSBB AM 1230 and 1490.

Saturday's game is a rematch of sorts of last season's ASUN Tournament championship game, an 80-78 overtime win by FGCU (11-5) in Fort Myers. Stetson (7-9) began an impressive end-of-season run last year by closing the regular season with an 80-73 win over the Eagles at Edmunds Center in the regular season finale.

Stetson enters play Saturday following a 95-72 win over Ave Maria on Monday. Leo Goodman's career-high 17 points led five Hatters in double figures.

FGCU stretched its winning streak to four straight by defeating Florida Tech, 101-49, on Dec. 31.

Tickets for Saturday's game start at $7 and can be purchased on line at www.GoHatters.com or by calling the Stetson Athletic Ticket Office at (386) 738-HATS (4287).

News & Notes
•The Hatters begin their 31st season of play in the Atlantic Sun Conference on Saturday. Stetson has been a member of the ASUN since the 1986-87 season and the Hatters are currently the longest tenured league member.
•The Hatters are 238-280 (.459) all-time in A-Sun regular season games
•Senior forward Brian Pegg needs four points to become the 34th Hatter -- and second this season -- to reach 1,000 career points. Divine Myles joined the 1,000-point club in December.
•Sophomore Derick Newton (810) is also on pace to reach 1,000 career points this season
•Junior guard Angel Rivera needs 4 assists to reach 100 for the 3rd straight season. Only three other Hatters (Frank Ireland, Terry Johnson, Brad Weston) have 3 straight 100-assist seasons.
