Hatters Edge FAU for Sixth Win in Eight Games

Deniz Dogan's penalty kick in the 74th minute was all the offense Stetson needed as the Hatters defeated Florida Atlantic, 1-0, on Tuesday at the Athletic Training Center.
 
The Hatters (7-5-1) won for the sixth time in eight games and now own a 6-1-1 record in that span. The victory also capped an undefeated (4-0-1) home season for Stetson.
 
A sluggish game by both teams for the first 70 minutes saw the pace pick up as Stetson began to furiously attack the goal with about 20 minutes play. All of that aggressive play eventually led to a foul in the box and Dogan, who leads the Hatters with seven goals, sank his fourth penalty kick of the season to give Stetson a lead.
 
But FAU (1-11-0) didn't go away and the Owls turned the tables on the Hatters and pushed Stetson, but the Hatters didn't wilt and came away with the win.
 
Stetson edged the Owls in shots (15-12), with keeper Joseph Melong making three saves. The shutout was fourth of the season for Melong and the Stetson defense.
 
The Hatters close out the regular-season when they visit ASUN Conference foe Jacksonville, 7 p.m., Friday.
