Blanco, Bhatnagar Advance at ITF Event

Stetson's Loic Blanco and Malik Bhatnagar earned victories on Friday during the first round of qualifying at the ITF USA F35 Futures in Birmingham, Ala.
 
Blanco edged his opponent in the third set, winning a tiebreaker to reach the second round of qualifying. Bhatnagar advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
 
Freshman Linus Bergevi suffered a tough three-set loss, falling 6-4 in the third set.
 
"Overall, it was a good first day for the Hatters," Stetson head coach Christophe Noblet said. "Linus could not pull it off, but fought well and learned a lot from the match. Malik got a quick win, while Loic really had to dig deep and ended up saving three match points in the tiebreaker. More challenging matches to be played tomorrow, and I know Loic and Malik are looking forward to that."
 
The ITF Futures even runs through Nov. 5.
