Hatters Fall at NJIT

NJIT's Briana Hackos scored the game's only goal on a penalty kick in the 87th minute as the Highlanders defeated Stetson, 1-0, in an ASUN conference game Sunday in Newark, N.J.

The loss Stetson's first in 10 games. The Hatters (7-3-3 overall, 2-1-2 ASUN) last tasted defeat on Aug. 27 in a 2-1 loss to Bryant.

"Disappointing result for sure but give credit to NJIT," Stetson head coach Manoj Khettry said. "They didn't give us too many good chances and they took advantage of the penalty kick they had and were gritty and tough and just wanted it more than we did today. We have to regroup and keep plugging away because we have two very difficult games left and we still have ASUN Tournament seeding to determine. We can't let this result linger too long, we've been having a good season and we want that to continue."

Stetson out-shot the Highlanders, 16-14. Stetson keeper Emily Plotz made eight saves while her counterpart for NJIT, Karen David, stopped nine shots.

The Hatters return to action when they visit North Florida, 7 p.m., Saturday, October 14.
