Hatters Prepare for Season Finale Showdown Against In State Rival Jacksonville

| By:
The Stetson University football team wraps up its 2017 schedule on Saturday when the Hatters take the ride up Interstate 95 for a clash with in state rival Jacksonville University at 1 p.m.

Saturday Game Information:
Stetson is playing at Jacksonville University Saturday at 1 p.m. at D.B Milne Stadium in Jacksonville. It is the 2017 season finale for the Hatters.

Hats off to 12 seniors:
While last weekend was the final home game of the season for Stetson, which meant it was senior day for Stetson's 11 graduating senior players and one student assistant coach, this Saturday officially marks the final time these graduating seniors will suit up as Hatters ever. The 12 seniors include linebacker Jake Bartha, linebacker Jeb Boudreaux, defensive tackle Eddie Curry, defensive end Jeff Fallabel, defensive back Chancellor Jackson, defensive back Dre Long, defensive back Eric Martin, wide receiver Jordan Sabo, wide receiver Ja'Vonta Swinton, tight end Austin Tyrrell, defensive end Shayne White and student assistant Sean McKeone.

Stetson's Last Game:
Stetson was defeated by Butler University 23-6 at Spec Martin Stadium last Saturday. The score was 7-6 at halftime before the Butler defense produced 16-second half points to pull away and win by 17. The visiting Bulldogs returned two Stetson interceptions for touchdowns, and produced a safety en route to the win. The Hatters defense did a great job keeping Butler out of the end zone, while limiting them to just 288 yards of total offense, a season best. The Hatters' lone score came in the first quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass by junior quarterback Colin McGovern to freshman wide receiver Justin Jordan.

About Today's Opponent:
Jacksonville University currently stands at 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the Pioneer Football League. The Dolphins are on a two game winning streak after winning at Campbell 54-48 in three overtimes on Oct. 28 and 20-17 at home against Valparaiso last week. The Dolphins lead the Pioneer Football League in rushing offense with 284.2 yards per game. Running back Irvin Riley leads the team with 507 rushing yards, while quarterback Rylan Wells has rushed for 428 yards. Wide receiver Prince Gray has thrown caught 29 passes for 429 yards to lead the Dolphins in that category. On defense, Thomas Oporto leads the team with 58 tackles, while the trio of Griffin Garland, CJ Lewis and Emon Smith have each made three interceptions.

All-Time Series:
These teams have met each of the past four seasons and Jacksonville has won each time. Last time they met, Jacksonville won 24-7 at Spec Martin Stadium on Sept. 24, 2016.

The Cool Stats:
Junior quarterback Colin McGovern became the first quarterback in Stetson annals to pass for over 2,000 yards in one season. He has thrown for 2,058 yards this season. Graduate linebacker Jeb Boudreaux leads Stetson and the Pioneer Football League with 104 tackles, and ranks 12th in the FCS in tackles per game at 10.4. He joins former teammate Donald Payne as the only Hatter to amass more than 100 tackles in a season two years in a row.

Head Coach Roger Hughes Quotable:
"Certainty Jacksonville over the past ten years has had the kind of success we would like to have, like playing for championships. They have done a good job having perennial winning seasons. We also overlap a lot with them recruiting wise, so the game, because of its geographic location, and how we overlap with the kind of kids we look to recruit are some of many reasons to see this game as important. With that said, for this to become a rivalry type game, we have to win. It's hard to say this is our big rival if you have never had a win against them, so certainly a win for us would be a big win for the program. Certainly it would be great for the kids and a great to springboard into the offseason. Certainly ending the year with a win would leave a better taste in your mouth. I think for all those reasons in addition for personal pride, being the competitors we are, are all the reasons why this game is important."
