No. 2 Texas Hands Stetson First Loss of the Season

Hatters Battle on Offense; Shoot 45 Percent from the Floor

Austin, Texas -- The second-ranked Texas Longhorns used a strong presence on the glass to defeat visiting Stetson 95-59 Sunday afternoon in front of 3,415 fans at the Frank Erwin Center.

Texas turned 24 offensive rebounds into 29 second chance points, and outrebounded Stetson 51-25 overall.

The Hatters (1-1) hung in offensively against one of the top defenses in the country, shooting 45.8 percent from the floor and connecting on five 3-pointers.  Kennedi Colclough led Stetson with 19 points on 8-for-13 shooting, while Brittney Chambers added 12 points.

"This is one of the best Texas teams I've seen and I've been around a little while, but I'm proud of my team," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I felt like we battled. We did some good things. For us, we can learn a lot from this game, but I think Texas is a very good team. A very deep team."

Freshman Michelle Pruitt was impressive once again, scoring 11 points in 24 minutes off the bench.  She was 5-for-5 from the floor and scored three times on offensive putbacks in the second quarter alone. She is now 11-for-11 in field goal attempts this season.

In addition, Sydney Wagner hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points.

Lashann Higgs led the Longhorns (1-0) with 18 points.

Stetson will return home to face Chattanooga at 5 p.m. Wednesday.  The Mocs are the defending SoCon Champions and one of five 2017 NCAA tournament teams the Hatters will face this season.

Notes: Brittney Chambers extended her double figure scoring streak to eight games ... The Hatters trailed after the first quarter for the first time in 21 games ... Stetson's defense took four charges ... Offensively, Stetson is now shooting 54.7 percent as a team after two games ... It was Stetson's first-ever game against Texas and first time facing a No. 2 ranked team.
