Myles, Newton Lead Hatters to Comeback Win at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Divine Myles scored a career-high 29 points and Derick Newton tallied his 1,000th career point as Stetson rallied past Bethune-Cookman for a 76-67 win, Wednesday at Moore Gymnasium.
 
The Hatters (10-15) trailed 42-36 at halftime, but shot 52 percent from the field in the second half while limiting the Wildcats to 28 percent shooting after halftime.
 
Myles was 12 of 20 from the field, and added eight rebounds and five assists while playing all 40 minutes. Newton scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half.
 
Not only did the Hatters trail by six at halftime, Bethune-Cookman (4-21) opened the second half with a 7-0 run as the lead swelled to 49-36 with 19:00 to play.
 
From that point forward, Stetson outscored the Wildcats, 40-18.  
 
Stetson gained its first lead since midway through the first half when Newton made a pair of free throw to make it 67-66 with 4:28 to play. The Hatters never trailed again.
 
Leo Goodman joined Myles and Newton in double digits with 13 points, scoring all of them in the first half to help Stetson stay in the game. Brian Pegg had 12 rebounds -- his second straight double-digit effort – as the Hatters earned a 49-37 advantage on the glass.
 
Brandon Tabb led the Wildcats with 24 points.
 
News & Notes
Newton is the third Hatter this season to reach 1,000 career points and the 35th in program history … Stetson entered the game with a minus-8.1 rebounding margin but beat the Wildcats on the boards by 12 … Myles' previous scoring high was 23, which he accomplished three separate times … Goodman grabbed a career-high 7 rebounds.
