Hatters Edge Lipscomb For Win No. 20

Saunders leads the way on Senior Day

DeLand, Fla. -- Brianti Saunders scored 22 points and Sarah Sagerer blocked six shots as Stetson rallied for a 66-60 win over visiting Lipscomb Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (20-5, 9-1 ASUN) won their ninth game in a row and reached the 20-win mark for the seventh consecutive season.

"We were very fortunate," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "Lipscomb will spread you out, they dribble penetrate and kick out for a 3.  When we had our bigs in, we didn't guard it well.  I thought when we went small, that really helped.  It allowed us to get some stops and guard them a lot better, especially in the second half."

For the second straight game, Stetson had to rally from a fourth quarter deficit.  Trailing 53-50 with 6:36 to play, the Hatters went on a 9-0 run, fueled by a six-point surge from Sagerer.  The Lady Bisons (5-20, 2-8) cut the lead back down to two with 90 seconds to play, but McKenna Beach had a putback basket on one possession and Breana Bey scored from down low on the next as Stetson was finally able to pull away.

"Those two plays were huge for us," Bria said.  "When they got a lead and extended it to four, I thought Bri put the team on her back.  She got a stop, she scored, she hit a 3.  When we went small and DeAsia had to play the 5, I thought she had some key rebounds."

Sagerer finished with 11 points, nine rebounds and six blocks.  Bey netted 10 points and Beach dished out a career-high nine assists.

Stetson shot 40 percent for the game and outrebounded Lipscomb 39-34.  The Hatters also clinched home court advantage for the ASUN quarterfinal round.

Loren Cagle scored 20 points for the Lady Bisons.

Stetson will host Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. Monday with a chance to extend its win streak to 10.
