Hatters Win 10th Straight, 60-43 Over Kennesaw State

Defense steps up once again

DeLand, Fla. -- For the fourth time in the past six years, the Hatters have won 10 games in a row.

Brittney Chambers scored a team-high 18 points off the bench and Brianti Saunders added 15 points as Stetson defeated visiting Kennesaw State 60-43 Monday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters improved to 21-5 overall, 13-2 at home, and 10-1 in the ASUN while remaining tied for first place in league standings.

With junior forward Sarah Sagerer limited to just one minute due to illness, senior DeAsia Beal and freshman Kennedi Colclough filled in with solid efforts in the post.

"I thought defensively we were much better today," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "Considering we didn't have Sarah, I was real proud of our defensive effort.  I thought we did a good job.  DeAsia had to play inside, and she hasn't had had to do that a lot, and Kennedi really stepped up for us in a huge way."

Beal scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds in 32 minutes, while Colclough had four points seven rebounds and one block in 24 minutes.

Stetson's defense has now held six of its last seven opponents under 50 points, with the lone exception coming Saturday in a 66-60 win over Lipscomb.

"I just think Saturday was an off game for us," Chambers said.  "It wasn't who we are defensively.  Tonight we just focused on doing what we do best, which is locking people down and playing defense.  That's what we focus on every day."

The Hatters led 19-9 after the first quarter and 37-20 at halftime.  Stetson shot 40 percent from the floor and 36 percent from behind the arc.  KSU shot just 30.9 percent.

Carlotta Gianolla scored 19 points to lead the Owls (7-18, 6-5).

The game was Stetson's final home contest of the regular season.  The Hatters will travel to New Jersey to face NJIT on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Notes: Stetson held KSU without a 3-pointer (0-for-6) ... Stetson will host at least one ASUN Championship game and needs one more victory to clinch a second home game ... The Hatters improved to 17-1 when leading at the half and 20-1 when leading after three quarters ... Brianti Saunders recorded her 300th career assist.
