Hatters Win 11th Straight, 60-37 at NJIT

Breana Bey leads with 19 points; DeAsia Beal with six steals

Newark, N.J. -- Chalk up another win for the defense.

Stetson held NJIT to 37 points, collecting 16 steals and 41 rebounds along the way, and cruised to a 60-37 victory over the Highlanders Saturday afternoon at the Fleisher Athletic Center.

The Hatters (22-5, 11-1 ASUN) won their 11th game in a row and clinched a top-2 seed for next month's ASUN tournament.  NJIT fell to 10-17, 3-9.

Stetson led 18-5 after the first quarter and 27-16 at the half.

"Thank God for our defense, because our offense got stagnant in the first half," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "Defensively we did a great job.  In the second half, I thought the offense opened up a little bit for us.  We started moving the basketball a little better and we were much more aggressive."

Playing in front of her hometown fans, Breana Bey led the Hatters with 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting.  Fellow New Jersey native Johanna McMillan hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored six points.

Brianti Saunders scored 13 points, marking the 100th game of her career scoring in double figures.  Sarah Sagerer recorded a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Bria was very impressed with the play of DeAsia Beal, who finished with six steals and helped shut down the Highlanders' Alana Dudley (10 points). McKenna Beach added five steals.

"I thought DeAsia Beal had the game of her life," Bria said.  "Defensively, she had so many deflections and turnovers.  She did a real good job on Dudley."

With just two games remaining in the regular season, the Hatters will visit USC Upstate at 7 p.m. Monday.
