No. 3 USC Downs Hatters

DELAND—No. 3 USC defeated Stetson, 18-3, in women's lacrosse on Sunday at the Athletic Training Center.

Stetson (0-3) was facing its second Top 25 opponent in as many games, after taking on No. 14 Colorado last week. On Sunday, the Trojans (3-1) scored the game's first 10 goals and never looked back.

Despite the score, Stetson head coach Christy Leach noticed several important improvements by the Hatters between Colorado and USC games.

"Today overall we played a lot better as a team," she said. "I think we fought a little bit harder. Draws were a big improvement. We really put a solid effort together against one of the better teams in the country."

Sandra Stephan, Maddie Holvey and Shelby Lehmann each scored goals for the Hatters (0-3).  The Hatters picked up nine draws as a team, with Stephan coming up with five on her own.

Stephan and Lindsay Summers each had assists for the Hatters. Freshman goalie Liza Diamond made four saves while facing 27 shots.

Kerrigan Miller led USC with four goals.

The Hatters return to action when they host LaSalle, 6 p.m., Monday, March 6.
