Late Rally Falls Short in Loss to Wagner

DeLAND—A late Stetson rally fell short in a 17-12 loss to Wagner, Thursday at the Athletic Training Center.

Stetson (0-7) trailed the entire game -- aside from a 1-1 tie early on -- but cut Wagner's lead down to 14-12 on a goal by Sam Maguire with 4:51 to play. But the Seahawks responded with three goals in the final 3:04 to seal the win.

Wagner led throughout but never by more than four goals until the final score of the night. After trailing 8-5 at halftime, the Hatters and Seahawks traded goals to start the second half. Following a second Wagner score the Hatters closed to within 10-8 on consecutive goals by Shelby Lehmann and Taylor Patrizi.

Leading by two the Seahawks ripped off three straight scores to bring their lead to 13-8 with 11:27 to play. Stetson then scored four of the next five goals to make it 14-12 before Wagner finished with a flurry.

Wagner's Lauren Ednie and Olivia Streilein each scored four goals for the Seahawks (2-5). Patrizi, Sandra Stephan, Lindsay Summers and Hallie Merz each scored two goals.

Liza Diamond made 10 saves in goal for the Hatters.

The Hatters return to action when they open Atlantic Sun Conference play at Old Dominion on Sunday, march 26.
