Hatters Suffer Loss in ASUN Opener

CHESAPEAKE, Va.—Four different players scored multiple goals for Old Dominion as the Monarchs handed Stetson a 15-4 defeat in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener for the Hatters, Sunday at L.R. Hill Complex.

Taylor Patrizi scored twice for the Hatters (0-8 overall, 0-1 ASUN) but Stetson's offense never got untracked. The Hatters managed 27 shots but struggled to find the net.

Stetson took an early 1-0 lead as Sam Maguire scored just 2:28 into the game. But the Monarchs (5-4, 1-1) scored the next three goals for a 3-1 lead. The Hatters got as close as 3-2 before the Monarchs pushed their lead to 8-2 at halftime.

Old Dominion's lead swelled to 12-2 as they opened the second half with four straight goals, putting the game out of reach for the Hatters.

Patrizi and Devon McKercher each scored goals in the second half for the Hatters but it wasn't enough.

Liza Diamond faced 33 shots and made 10 saves in goal for the Hatters. Maddie Holvey and Sarah Trupp led Stetson with three draw controls apiece. Shelby Lehmann had a pair of assists.

The Hatters return to action when they visit ASUN foe Howard, 5 p.m., Friday in Washington, D.C.
