Peele, Salibasic Win But Hatters Fall

DeLAND—Despite singles victories by Danielle Peele and Maja Salibasic, Stetson women's tennis came out on the short end of a 5-2 score against College of Charleston, Saturday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
 
Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant was upbeat about his team's performance, even in defeat.
 
"We've been working towards making sure our effort doesn't change when we get down," he said. "We want to make sure the effort doesn't change. We're trying to improve on that and get to a level where we can be in matches like this."
 
The match began with the Cougars (5-2) winning the doubles point for a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.
 
Charleston won singles matches Nos. 3, 4 and 1 to take a 4-0 lead and get the team win. Play continued and the Hatters kept battling, as sophomore Alexe Viaud pushed her opponent to a third set after losing the first set, 6-0. Ultimately Viaud succumbed by a 0-6, 7-6 (7-2), 0-1 (8-10) score.
 
Salibasic put the Hatters 91-8) on the board with a straight set victory at No. 2, winning 6-3, 7-6.
 
Peele outlasted her opponent at No. 5, winning tiebreakers in the final two sets to earn a 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 1-0 (11-9) victory.
 
The Hatters return to action when they host Davidson, 10 a.m., Monday, March 6.
