Maguire Powers Hatters Past Central Michigan

DeLAND—Stetson's Sam Maguire scored a career-high six goals as the Hatters offense exploded for the third straight game in a 20-8 win over Atlantic Sun Conference foe Central Michigan, Friday at the Athletic Training Center.
 
In gaining their third consecutive win, the Hatters improved to 3-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Stetson reached the 20-goal mark for the third straight contest, scoring 65 total goals in that span.
 
Maguire was one of five Hatters with multiple goals. She was joined by Maddie Holvey (4), Shelby Lehmann (3), Julia Lozano (2) and Taylor Patrizi (2).
 
The Hatters overwhelmed the Chippewas in the early going, jumping out to a 6-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
 
Stetson continued to add to its lead as the first half moved forward. Back-to-back goals by Lehmann made it 10-2, and goals in the final two minutes of the half by Maguire and Lehmann gave the Hatters a 14-5 lead at halftime.
 
The lead reached 10 goals early in the second half when Holvey scored her third goal of the night to make it 15-5, and the Hatters held as much as a 20-6 lead when Maguire scored on a free position shot with 10:41 to play.
 
Stetson dominated on the draw, getting 22 compared to just seven for CMU. Patrizi and Lozano combined to win 11 draws for the Hatters.
 
Liza Diamond made six saves in goal for the Hatters on 17 shots.
 
The Hatters return to action when they host Detroit Mercy, noon, Sunday.
