Hatters Edge Detroit Mercy as Win Streak Reaches Four

DeLAND—Taylor Patrizi and Sam Maguire combined to score nine goals and Stetson's defense came through in the clutch as the Hatters extended their winning streak to four with a 14-12 win over Detroit Mercy, Sunday at the Athletic Training Center.

Stetson is now 4-8 overall and 4-1 in Atlantic Sun Conference play. The Hatters' four straight victories marks the longest winning streak in program history.

The Hatters ended with the win, but things didn't start out so well. The Titans (2-11, 0-6) opened the game by scoring the first three goals. But Stetson stormed back by scoring the next four goals as Patrizi, Julia Lozano, Sandra Stephan and Maguire each found the back of the net for a 4-3 lead.

Back-to-back goals by the Titans gave them a 5-4 advantage, but the Hatters finished the half with three straight scores and took a 7-5 lead at halftime.

Stetson's lead swelled to 12-7 with 11:18 to play, but the Titans responded with four goals in two minutes and six seconds, pulling to within 12-11 with 8:36 to go.

Patrizi gave Stetson some breathing room with a pair of goals in the final five minutes. After allowing a score with 3:31 to play, Stetson held the Titans scoreless and escaped with the win.

Magure led the Hatters with five goals, and Patrizi had four. Five other Hatters scored one goal each. Lindsay Summers had three assists and Liza Diamond and Julia Lozano each had six ground balls.

Diamond made 12 saves in goal for the Hatters.

Stetson next hosts Kennesaw State, 6 p.m., Thursday at the ATC.
