Hatters Set to Battle for Final ASUN Spot

Stetson needs series win at Jacksonville

The end of the 2017 ASUN regular season will have a distinct postseason flavor to it.

The Stetson Hatters and Jacksonville Dolphins will play what virtually amounts to a mini super-regional as the winner of the three-game series will qualify for next week's ASUN Championship, while the other team's season will end.

The Hatters and Dolphins will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.  There will be no live video coverage but fans can follow StetsonStats.com for live stats and @StetsonSoftball on twitter.

The Dolphins enter the weekend with a 5-10 league record, while the Hatters are a game back at 4-11.  Both teams are looking to claim the sixth and final spot in the conference tournament, which will begin May 10 in Nashville, Tenn.

The last time Stetson faced a must-win scenario at the end of the regular season was in 2009 when the Hatters swept a home doubleheader against Belmont to qualify for the ASUN tournament.  Katie Lawrence went 5-for-7 with a grand slam and seven RBI in the doubleheader and Amanda Lindsey and Erica Demers were each victorious in the circle.

The Hatters have reached the postseason five years in a row.

Stetson leads the all-time series 22-14 over Jacksonville.  The Dolphins have won six in a row in the series, including all four meetings last year.

Jessie TenBroeck is three stolen bases shy of 50 on the season and Kelsey Waters is one stolen base away from 30.  Head coach Frank Griffin is one win shy of 700 victories at Stetson.

All three games will be played at the Debbie and Fred Pruitt Softball Complex on JU's campus.
