Hatters Open Season With Convincing Victory

Sarah Collins scored a pair of goals and Allison Zaccheo added another as Stetson opened the 2017 season with a convincing 3-0 win over American, Friday at USF's Corbett Soccer Stadium. The win is the Hatters' first season-opening victory in six years.
 
Collins put the Hatters on the board early, scoring in the 13th minute as she beat the keeper one-on-one. She extended Stetson's lead to 2-0 with another goal in the 75th minute, sneaking a shot just under the crossbar. Greta Watkins and Zaccheo, respectively, assisted on the goals.
 
Zaccheo capped Stetson's scoring in the 80th minute, taking pass from Lily Ammon on the left side of the box and scoring from seven yards out.
 
Emily Plotz registered her sixth career shutout in goal for the Hatters, making four saves.
 
Stetson out-shot the Eagles, 20-4.
 
The Hatters next visit UCF, 1 p.m., Sunday in Orlando.
 
Notes: Collins now has 30 career goals and trails program all-time leader Tessa Gavilsky (2007-10) by four goals … this was the seventh multi-goal game of Collins' career … Stetson's last season-opening win was a 2-1 victory against FIU in 2011 … Ammon and freshman Marissa Maynes made their first career starts on Friday.
