Hatters Downed in Home Opener

Bryant's Rachel Benz broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 60th minute and Stetson was unable to recover as the Hatters suffered a 2-1 defeat in their 2017 home opener, Friday at the Athletic Training Center.

Benz's game-winner came winner came when she poked a shot past Stetson keeper Emily Plotz during a pile up directly in front of goal as the Hatters couldn't clear the ball.

Stetson led 1-0 as the second half began after Sarah Collins scored her third goal of the season in the 15th minute, off a double assist from Kendall Harmon and Florencia Baldassini. But the game was tied when the Hatters scored an own-goal in the 46th minute, giving Bryant some momentum.

The Hatters out-shot Bryant, 11-8, but only two shots were on-goal. Plotz made four saves while the duo of Rachel Brightman and Megan Dalton combined for the win for Bryant.

The Hatters host Embry-Riddle, 7 p.m., Sunday.
