Hatters Shutout at Western Michigan

Five different players scored goals for Western Michigan as the Broncos handed visiting Stetson a 5-0 defeat, Sunday at WMU Soccer Complex in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Ben Thornton, Jay Macintosh, Brandon Bye, Jake Rufe and Pepe Martinez each scored goals for the Broncos (2-0-0), who out-shot Stetson (0-2-0) by a 20-7 margin.

Western Michigan scored twice in the game's first 12 minutes and added a third score in the 43rd minute for a 3-0 lead at halftime. Two more goals in the second half capped the scoring.

"Today was not our day," Stetson head coach Kyle Gookins. "Credit to Western Michigan, they were better than us in every part of the game. We will learn from this performance, train hard, and move on to the next game against Bucknell."

The Hatters next host Bucknell, noon, Sunday, Sept. 3 at the Athletic Training Center.
