Hatters Stay Perfect in ASUN With Overtime Win

Daniel O'Brien scored with less than three minutes remaining in the first overtime period to lead Stetson to a thrilling 2-1 win over visiting Lipscomb in ASUN Conference play, Wednesday at the Athletic Training Center.

The win is Stetson's third straight and improves the Hatters to 4-4-0 overall and 2-0-0 in ASUN play.

O'Brien's goal came off a double assist by David Bergstrom and Elvis Menayese. Bergstrom fed O'Brien from the right side of the box and O'Brien flicked a shot over Lipscomb keeper Christopher Zappia and into the net, setting off a celebration on the field.

Stetson appeared to be on its way to a regulation victory, but Lipscomb (5-4-0, 1-1-0) scored late in the second half to send it to the extra period.

Julien Coulomb scored his first career goal in the 79th minute to give Stetson a 1-0 lead, heading in Finn Busmann's free kick from just outside the box.

The Bisons finally got on the board in the 89th minute as Ryan Birchfield scored following a saved shot by teammate Eduardo Reza.

Stetson keeper Joseph Melong made six saves for the Hatters, and Stetson's offense got off 14 shots for the game.

The Hatters return to action when they visit ASUN foe USC Upstate, 7 p.m., Saturday.
