Cold-Shooting Hatters Fall to UNF

Stetson went nearly 12 minutes without a field goal in the second half, allowing North Florida to overcome 39 percent shooting as the Ospreys downed the Hatters, 73-65, in ASUN Conference play, Saturday at Edmunds Center in DeLand.

The Hatters (10-14, 2-5) lost their fifth straight game despite doing nearly everything right defensively against the ASUN's top offense. Stetson held the Ospreys (10-14, 4-3) to more than 13 points below their conference scoring average, and limited UNF to 5 of 23 shooting from 3-point range. The Ospreys entered the contest 8th in the NCAA with 11.3 threes per game.

But Stetson's offense couldn't keep pace with the defensive effort. After Leo Goodman's jumper tied the game at 43-43 with 14:49 to play, the Hatters missed their next 15 shots. Goodman finally broke the dry spell with a layup at the 2:52 mark but by then the Hatters trailed 65-55.

Stetson somewhat righted the ship offensively down the stretch, but the Hatters never got closer than the final margin.

UNF led 39-34 at halftime. The Hatters shot just 34 percent for the game, including 28 percent (9-32) in the second half.

Divine Myles led Stetson with 18 points. Luke Doyle added 12 and a team-high 7 rebounds, while Keith Matthews had a career-high 11 points and Goodman chipped in with 10.

Ivan Rosa-Gandia led four Ospreys in double figures with 15 points.
