Hatters Add Ole Miss Transfer Day'Neshia Banks

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson University women's basketball head coach Lynn Bria announced Wednesday that former McDonald's All-American nominee Day'Neshia Banks (Jacksonville, Fla./Ribault HS) has joined the program as a mid-year transfer.

Banks, a 5-10 forward, transfers to Stetson from Ole Miss, where she played in eight games this season as a freshman.  She will have two-and-a-half years of eligibility remaining with the Hatters following the 2018 fall semester.

"Day'Neshia is a very good athlete," Bria said. "Her versatility is tremendous.  She can play inside and outside, she can score, she can rebound, and she has good size.  It is going to be nice for her to get a year of practice to learn our system, and I think she will make an immediate impact on our program.  We are very happy to have to have her."

A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Banks was a two-time state champion and a national champion at Ribault High School.  As a senior, she averaged 17.6 points and 6.6 rebounds to lead the Trojans (26-3) to the FHSAA Class 6A State Championship.  In the title game, Banks scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Ribault defeated Lakewood 72-31.  She earned First Team All-State honors and was a McDonald's All-American Nominee.

As a junior, Banks averaged over 18 points-per-game to help lead Ribault to a 30-1 record and a 5A state championship.  She also helped the Trojans win the Dick's Sporting Goods High School Girls National Championship with a 75-49 victory over Riverdale Baptist at Madison Square Garden.  Banks had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game.

Banks earned a 90 scouts grade and was ranked as the 19th-best player at her position by ESPN.   She will wear number 00 with the Hatters.

Stetson (13-9, 4-2 ASUN) will visit Jacksonville (15-6, 5-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
