Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Athletic Communications

Dolphins Down Hatters, 3-1

Stetson men's soccer suffered a 3-1 loss to Jacksonville in ASUN Conference play, Wednesday at the Athletic Training Center in DeLand.

The loss means the Hatters (5-8-1 overall, 0-3-1 ASUN) are now likely to need wins in each of their final two games to qualify for the ASUN Tournament.

Stetson dominated play for much of the game, finishing with a 23-12 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. But Jacksonville (3-10, 3-1) took full advantage of their limited opportunities to get the win.

JU took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 32nd minute. Steven Saunders stole a pass 35 yards away from the goal, dribbled once and launched a missile just over the head of Stetson keeper Braeden Luna to get the Dolphins on the board.

Stetson tied the game in the 58th minute when Sebastian Chalbaud found a streaking Daniel O'Brien following a JU turnover. O'Brien then beat Dolphins' keeper Matt Levy one-on-one for his second goal of the season.

The Dolphins regained the lead in the 75th minute. Selemani Baruani got loose behind the Stetson defense and rebounded his own saved shot for a goal and a 2-1 lead.

JU put the game out of reach when Reed Davis scored off an assist from Baruani in the 85th minute as the Dolphins went up 3-1.

Levy finished with eight saves for the Dolphins while Luna stopped three shots.

The Hatters close out their home schedule when they host North Florida, 7 p.m., Saturday at the ATC.
