Hatters Blank UNF on Senior Day

Erwan Colas and Daniel O'Brien each scored goals as Stetson men's soccer secured an important ASUN Conference victory with a 2-0 decision over North Florida, Saturday at the Athletic Training Center in DeLand.

The win, Stetson's first in conference play, helped inch the Hatters (6-8-1 overall, 1-3-1 ASUN) closer to a postseason bid. With one game left, Stetson currently occupies the sixth and final spot for the ASUN Tournament. The Hatters wrap up the season next Saturday at league-leading Lipscomb.

"I'm really proud to keep a clean sheet on Senior Day," Stetson head coach Cristian Neagu said. "We played well in our last two conference games and came out with two tough losses. Tonight, I'm proud of our defensive effort and the intensity with which we approached this game. I feel like we've been getting better as the season moved on, but now we just have to focus on the game next weekend at Lipscomb."

The Hatters celebrated Senior Day by dominating the Ospreys (3-9, 2-2). Stetson out-shot UNF, 20-1, playing half their shots on-frame.

Colas got the Hatters on the board just before halftime. Sebastian Chalbaud stole a pass on the UNF side of the field, dribbled 20 yards and found a streaking Colas, who beat UNF keeper Philip D'Amico for his seventh goal of the season. The score, in the 39th minute, gave the Hatters a 1-0 lead.

Stetson continued to pound the Ospreys' goal and finally padded the lead when O'Brien scored in the 58th minute. Raphael Northoff sent a perfect cross from the left side of the box that O'Brien picked off mid-air and pounded past D'Amico to make it 2-0.

Braeden Luna stood tall in goal for the Hatters, making a pair of saves as he recorded his third shutout of the season.

The Hatters close the regular-season 8 p.m., next Saturday at Lipscomb. A win gets the Hatters a spot in the ASUN Tournament.
