Hatters Clinch ASUN Berth Despite Loss

Stetson men's soccer suffered a 2-1 loss in the regular-season finale at Lipscomb on Saturday, but the Hatters still managed to clinch a spot in next weekend's ASUN Tournament.
 
North Florida's 4-1 win over NJIT gave Stetson the sixth and final spot in the conference tournament. The Hatters will serve as the tourney's No. 6 seed and will face UNF next Friday in Fort Myers, Fla.
 
As for the game with Lipscomb, the Hatters (6-9-1, 1-5-1) took an early lead when Raphael Northoff drilled a free kick from 25 yards out in the 8th minute.
 
Lipscomb (7-9-0, 5-1-0) bounced back with a pair of goals midway through the first half. Louis Robinson scored in the 24th minute to knot the game at 1-1, and Logan Payneter followed with another goal less than fivbe minutes later as the Bisons grabbed a 2-1 lead.
 
From there, Lipscomb kept Stetson from seriously threatening. The Hatters managed on Northoff's shot in the first half, and launched just four more in the second half. Lipscomb clinched the ASUN Tournament No. 1 seed with the win.
 
Braeden Luna faced 13 shots and made four saves in goal for the Hatters.
 
The ASUN Tournament begins next weekend in Nashville and Fort Myers with quarterfinal and semifinal action. Lipscomb and FGCU will serve as the top two seeds, with UNF, Jacksonville, Liberty and Stetson serving a seeds 3-6. Game times will be announced next week.
