Hatters Downed at FGCU, 3-1

FGCU's Shak Adams scored a pair of goals and added an assist as the Eagles downed Stetson, 3-1, in ASUN Conference men's soccer action Saturday in Fort Myers.

Each of the game's four goals were scored in the first half as the teams got off to a wild start.

FGCU (6-3-1 overall, 2-1-0 ASUN) took an early lead. Adams assisted as O'Vonte Mullings scored to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes into the match.

Adams made it a 2-0 game when he knocked in a goal off his own missed penalty kick attempt. Stetson keeper Braden Luna made the save of the original PK in the 13th minute, but Adams snagged the rebound and sent the ball past Luna on his second attempt.

The Hatters (4-6-1, 0-1-1) got on the board in the 24th minute when Lewis Scattergood scored, thanks to an assist by Gabriel Diniz.

Adams struck again just before halftime, scoring in the 40th minute to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead at halftime.

The second half was much tamer, as both defenses tightened up. After combining for 15 shots in the first half, the teams offered just six combined shots in the game's final 45 minutes.

The Hatters out-shot FGCU, 11-10. Luna made two saves for the Hatters while FGCU keeper Gustavo Vasconcelos – the ASUN leader in saves, save percentage and goals-against average – made four saves for the Eagles.

Stetson returns to action when the Hatters visit Georgia State, 7 p.m., Tuesday.
