Hatters Edged By Hofstra 53-50

Sarah Sagerer Earns All-Tournament Honors

Nashville, Tenn. -- Hofstra held off Stetson's second-half charge to post a 53-50 victory Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Challenge in Music City.

The Hatters (0-5) cut an 11-point halftime deficit all the way down to one but a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer stayed out.

"I thought we played really hard," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I feel bad for our kids.  I thought we put ouselves in a position to win the game. I think we have to a better job of (executing down the stretch).  I felt like we fought, and like I said we are still figuring some things out.  We just have to get better.  We have to keep our heads up and stay locked in."

Sarah Sagerer led the way with 21 points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots.  She was 9-for-19 from the floor with three assists and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

"Sarah gets better and better every game," Bria said.  "She gets more and more like the Sarah of old.  She is still rusty, but overall I am happy with what she is doing."

McKenna Beach added 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Her three-point play with 12 seconds left pulled Stetson to within 51-50, but Boogie Brozoski hit two free throws with 10 seconds left for the final margin.  She led all players with 22 points.

Defensively, Stetson held Hofstra (3-4) to just seven points in the third quarter and to just five field goals total in the second half.  The Pride shot 31.4 percent, while the Hatters shot 44.7 percent.

Stetson will remain on the road and will travel to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday night.

Notes: Sagerer recorded her 14th career double-double (first this season) ... Her 15 rebounds tied a tournament record and her six blocks set a new tournament record ... Stetson held a 30-16 advantage in points in the paint ... Hofstra held a 14-5 advantage in free throws made.
