Hatters Fall to Alabama Despite Strong Showing

Addi Walters hits four 3s and scores 12 points

Tuscaloosa, Ala. -- Stetson battled Alabama down to the wire before the Crimson Tide prevailed for a 59-47 victory Tuesday night at Coleman Coliseum.

Addi Walters led the Hatters (0-6) with 12 points while Sarah Sagerer and McKenna Beach each added 11.

After trailing by 12 at the half, Stetson pulled to within four twice during the third quarter and to within six with 2:32 to play.  The Hatters held Alabama (5-1) to a season-low 59 points.

"It was probably the best game we have played all year," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I thought we played well.  We rebounded better than we ever have.  We really committed to the glass.  I have no complaints with our effort, and I thought our execution was vastly better today."

Stetson pulled down 35 rebounds, its second-highest total this season, and committed a season-low 10 turnovers.  The Hatters hit eight 3-pointers as a team, including four by Walters and two by Bianca Fizouaty.

Sagerer led the effort on the glass with 11 boards for her second straight double-double. She added two assists, two blocks and two steals with no turnovers.

"I like how this team is jelling," Bria said.  "It is taking some time.  We just have to keep playing together and keep practicing together."

Shaquera Wade scored 14 points to lead the Crimson Tide.

Stetson will return home to host Webber International at 11 a.m. Friday in the annual Volusia County elementary school game.

Notes: Alabama hit 12 3-pointers but only six two pointers ... The Hatters outscored the Tide 20-6 in points in the paint ... Stetson played even with Alabama in the second half (29-29) ... Sarah Sagerer scored her 800th career point ... Megan Vincent had four assists ... McKenna Beach hit her 100th career 3-pointer ... Jon'Nita Henry had a large contingent in attendance in her return to her native Alabama.
