Fizouaty Banks In The Winner as Hatters Complete Classic Sweep

Hatter Freshman Steps Up Late

DeLand, Fla. -- With the game tied at 57 and the shot clock down to 2, freshman Bianca Fizouaty banked home a 3-pointer from 25-feet out to help lift Stetson to a dramatic 60-59 come-from-behind victory over North Dakota State Friday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Fizouaty's shot was her third 3-pointer of the game and capped off a 12-point second-half rally by the Hatters (4-8).

"The (defender) was actually playing really good defense, so I had a really high arc on the shot," Fizouaty said.  "I didn't think it was going in, but luckily it hit the backboard and went in.  It made me really happy."

The victory made all the Hatters happy as Stetson (4-8) completed a three-game sweep of the Hatter Classic.  Sarah Sagerer took over in the second half, finishing with 21 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks.

"We have had a really tough schedule so far, and now we see it paying off," Sagerer said.  "Those were great teams, so it was a great effort from our team, defensively, offensively, and we just have to keep it going from here."

Stetson trailed 36-24 at the half and 45-39 after 3, but Day'Neshia Banks and Fizouaty each hit 3s early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 45.  It was the first of three ties down the stretch as the teams jockeyed back-and-forth for the lead.  Banks buried another a game-tying 3-pointer with 2:33 to go, and Fizouaty's eventual game-winner came with 58.2 seconds left on the clock.

"I was just really proud of our team," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "We stuck together and made some plays.  We made a few adjustments in the second half that I thought were effective."

North Dakota State (3-9) had an opportunity to tie with 0.1 remaining but hit just two of three free throws to give Stetson the one-point victory.

Sagerer, who earned all-tournament team honors, collected six blocks in the third quarter alone. She surpassed the 200-block mark for her career and moved to within three blocks of tying Stetson's all-time school record of 208.

"Sarah put on a defensive clinic in the second half," Bria said.  "She was like a wall back there.  She was phenomenal - rebounding, blocks, scoring.  She looked like the Sarah of old.  She played hard and played tough.  I was really happy for her."

Fizouaty was a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor and finished with 11 points.  Banks added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Michelle Gaislerova scored 20 points for the Bison and was also named to the all-tournament team.

The Hatters will enjoy a break for the holidays before hosting Penn on Dec. 31 at 11 a.m.
