Hatters Downed By Penn, 75-53

Jon'Nita Henry led the Hatters with 16 points

DeLand, Fla. -- The Penn Quakers shot 55 percent in the first half and 47 percent for the game in a 75-53 victory over Stetson Monday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Penn improved to 8-2 on the season while the Hatters fell to 4-9.

"I knew their size would probably bother us, but they are a very good team," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "They are disciplined, they guard, and you can tell they are seasoned. They play well together.

"I don't think we played well," Bria added.  "I think we gave them entirely too many points in the second quarter, and we are better than that, but I can't take anything away from Penn.  They are a good team."

Jon'Nita Henry led the Hatters with a career-high 16 points.  She hit four 3-pointers and was 6-for-11 from the floor.

Sarah Sagerer added 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, including the 208th block of her career.  She is now tied with Amber Porter for the all-time school record for career blocks.

Ashley Russell registered 23 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead the Quakers.

"We put them on the schedule for a reason," Bria said.  "We want to play the good teams.  You get exposed when you play a disciplined team like that.  When you make a mistake, they make you pay for it.  That's good for us, and we need to see that now.  We need to be better.  We need to find a way to get some points on the board."

The Hatters fell to 3-1 on their six-game homestand, which continues Friday night against Central State University.

Notes:
  • Penn held a 34-18 advantage in points in the paint and a 40-33 rebounding edge
  • The two teams met for the first time in 20 years
  • In addition to tying the blocks record, Sarah Sagerer scored her 900th career point and grabbed her 700th career rebound
  • McKenna Beach had six assists, giving the senior 20 assists in her last four games
