Hatters See Late Lead Slip Away at USC Upstate

Spartanburg, S.C. -- USC Upstate rallied from a 11-point second half deficit to defeat visiting Stetson 69-64 Monday night at the Hodge Center.

Brittney Chambers and McKenna Beach each scored 16 points to lead the Hatters (15-12, 6-5 ASUN).  Michelle Pruitt finished with 14 points and nine rebounds before picking up her fifth foul midway through the fourth quarter.

Megan Vincent and Shania Meertens also fouled out for Stetson. 

The Spartans (10-16, 5-6) shot 50 percent in the second half and rallied from a 43-32 deficit early in the third quarter.  Stetson still led 59-55 midway through the fourth, but the Spartans closed the game on a 14-5 run.

Riley Popplewell led USC Upstate with 16 points and 13 rebounds.  The Spartans went 24-for-28 from the free throw line.

The Hatters will begin a three-game homestand Saturday afternoon against Kennesaw State

Notes:
  • The Hatters went 0-for-9 from behind the arc and had their 261-game 3-point streak snapped after eight years.
  • Brittney Chambers scored in double figures for the 11th straight game and for the 26th time this season.
  • Michelle Pruitt (6 games) McKenna Beach (5 games) also extended their double-figure scoring streaks
