Second-Half Surge Lifts Hatters Past Kennesaw State

Divine Myles scored a game-high 20 points and Abayomi Iyiola added 18 and 8 rebounds as Stetson downed Kennesaw State, 86-74, in ASUN Conference play Saturday at Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (12-18, 4-9) rallied from a 39-38 halftime deficit, shooting 54.5 percent from the floor in the second half. Myles was 7 of 14 from the floor for the game while Iyiola dominated the inside on 9 of 11 shooting. He also added three blocked shots.

Stetson broke the game open with a 20-6 run midway through the second half. A four-point play by Leo Goodman and consecutive layups by Angel Rivera highlighted the run as Stetson grabbed a 69-58 advantage with 8:36 left.

The lead eventually swelled to 16 points when a Christiaan Jones jumper made it 78-62 with 4:05 to play, and Stetson went six-of-six from the free throw line in the final 1:28 to seal the victory.

While the Hatters allowed the Owls to shoot nearly 55 percent from the field, they made up for it with a plus-6 rebounding margin (30-24) and a plus-10 advantage in points off turnovers (28-18).

Rivera enjoyed a solid all-round game for the Hatters with 8 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Jones and Luke Doyle scored 9 points apiece.

Kennesaw State (10-18, 6-7) was led by Nick Masterson and Anthony Wilson with 14 points apiece.

The Hatters close out the regular-season when they host FGCU, 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22 at Edmunds Center.
