Hatters Have Foundation of Chemistry, Competition

Before the 2018 Stetson softball season gets underway this weekend, the Hatters already know they have two things going for them: A good team chemistry, and a healthy spirit of competition.

"We definitely get along really well," senior Chelsea Hostetler said. "We clicked really fast in the fall. We all hang out a lot. We all really care for each other. It's definitely a real nice environment to be in.

"We are all excited about this season," Hostetler added. "We are all driven. So I think that's one thing we have in common. We are so excited just to see what is in store this season."

Along with bonding as a team, the Hatters have developed a healthy spirit of competition as well. Hostetler says that internal drive to succeed could be a major component of the team's identity.

"We like to compete in almost everything we do," Hostetler said. "From trying to have the funniest jokes, or playing trivia games, or seeing who can eat the most or who has the prettiest selfie. I think that is a huge part of how we are going to play this year. First we have to be competitive with each other to earn a spot on the field, and then we just have so much to prove."

The season starts on Friday as the Hatters host the Stetson Lead-Off Classic at Patricia Wilson Field. The Hatters will face Akron (4 p.m.) and Kansas (6:30 p.m.) on Friday and the College of Charleston (4 p.m.) and Akron (6:30 p.m.) on Saturday. Season tickets start at just $55 and can be purchased online (GoHatters.com/tix) or at the Hatter Ticket office. Day of game tickets can be purchased at the Patricia Wilson Field box office.
