Hatters Blank Spartans



Stetson women's tennis got back on track Thursday when the Hatters swept ASUN Conference foe USC Upstate, 7-0, in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Hatters (9-6, 1-1) entered play Thursday having lost four of their previous five matches, but they righted the ship against the Spartans (1-13, 0-2) in dominating fashion.

Stetson opened play by winning the doubles point. The No. 3 doubles pair of Vicky Geurinckx & Alexe Viaud earned a 6-2 win, and the No. 2 tandem of Danel Ashirova & Arjiana Korac clinched the point with a 6-4 win.

Singles was more of the same. Ashirova got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 win, and Maxine Bateman followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on Court 6.

Geurinckx clinched the match for the Hatters with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4.

Lucie Renault was victorious at No. 3, winning 6-2, 6-1, while Brooke Milner captured a 6-1, 7-6 victory at No. 5. Korac finished the sweep with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 1.

The Hatters continue ASUN play when they visit NJIT on Saturday.
