Hatters Down FGCU, Clinch No. 2 Seed in ASUN Tournament

Stetson men's tennis closed out the regular season with a 5-2 win over ASUN Conference foe FGCU, Saturday in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Hatters wrap up the regular-season with a 17-3 overall record and a 5-1 conference mark. Stetson has clinched the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in next weekend's ASUN Tournament.

"This was a great win on the road for the Hatters," Stetson head coach Christophe Noblet said. "Playing at FGCU is never easy as they always have a big crowd, but I think we did a fine job controlling our emotions and playing composed all the way. We will enjoy this one for a little bit, but our minds will quickly focus back onto the ASUN championship coming up next weekend. We have a big challenge ahead of us, and we are not the favorite. We need to focus on ourselves and hopefully apply all the lessons we learned throughout this season."

Stetson won with an impressive effort in singles play, as they won five of six matches after dropping the doubles point.

Freshman Malik Bhatnagar was the first Hatter to register a singles victory, gaining a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1, tying the match. Senior Loic Blanco gave Stetson a 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2.

Freshman Antoine Sanchez followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 as Stetson took a 3-1 lead. Fellow freshman Linus Bergevi clinched the match for the Hatters with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5.

Sophomore Angus Bradshaw capped Stetson's singles run with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) win at No. 4.
