Hatters Cruise Past Kennesaw State

Stetson won its third straight women's tennis match on Thursday with a convincing 6-1 victory against ASUN Conference for Kennesaw State at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand.
 
The Hatters (11-6 overall, 3-1 ASUN) tightened their grip on third place in the conference standings with two matches remaining in the regular season. Kennesaw State falls to 1-13, 0-3.
 
Stetson dominated play, especially in singles. But the Hatters opened the morning match by winning the doubles point. The No. 3 tandem of Vicky Geurinckx & Alexe Viaud earned a 6-3 win, and the No. 2 duo of Arijana Korac & Danel Ashirova posted a 6-4 win as Stetson went up, 1-0.
 
Singles began with several quick victories. Maxine Bateman made quick work of her opponent at No. 6, winning 6-1, 6-1. Brooke Milner followed at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 win as the Hatters grabbed a 3-0 lead.
 
Geurinckx clinched the match for the Hatters with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4. Ashirvoa was a 6-1, 6-3 victor at No. 2, and Korac capped the winning for Stetson with a 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (7-0) win at No. 1.
 
The Hatters continue ASUN play when they host Lipscomb, 10 a.m., Saturday. Arijana Korac will be honored in pregame ceremonies as she plays her final home match on Senior Day.

"We are really looking forward to Saturday's match against Lipscomb," Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant said. "We look forward to celebrating and honoring Arijana in her last home match. We hope everyone can come out and support her and the team in our green out match."
